Our fingers crossed and interlaced,
A gentle stroke through my locks of hair.
I feel suddenly and instantly displaced,
As I realize you’re not standing there.

A single set of prints I lay,
As alone on this beach I walk.
I notice then the sky is grey,
And there’s no one there to talk.

With a heavy heart a sigh escapes,
The wind carries it out to sea.
My dream within the ocean is raped
And pillaged so it can not be.

Lone prints being swept away
By the churning ocean’s grace.
What is it then that I can say,
For me to glance and see your face?
With the pleasant dream gone,
And the reality this harsh and cold,
The bitterness, jealousy and envy full on,
I have never felt this drained and old.

However, as time passed and the town grew, the council and townspeople decided it was high time to find their niche in the world...Star Trek was a big thing and we were lucky enough to have already been named with a very Star Trek-kie name--and so, Vulcan became a Star Trek town.

The town got its name from a Canadian Pacific Railway employee who came to survey the land and had a particular fascination with Roman mythology. The area that Vulcan sits on is the highest elevation point of the CPR line of the time.

The Town of Vulcan has approximately 1,800 people and is nestled in southern Alberta. It really is a pretty little town and the people here are fabulous. We are located in Vulcan County, the second largest county in Alberta. The county includes five villages and a few hamlets and is home to just over 6,000 people. The villages in Vulcan County are: Arrowwood, Carmangay, Champion, Lomond and Milo.

We have our very own Web site for the Town of Vulcan, which you can find here.

We have the Vulcan Tourism and Trek Station, which looks like a star ship. Each year in June, we have Spock Days which runs the second weekend of June each year--and thousands and thousands of people flock to our little town for festivities and all things Trek.

A side note: People who like Star Trek are not Trekkies...they are Trekkers. Please, don't feed the bears or ever get this confused again. =) I know this from interviewing a raft of Trekkers at the convention weekend and accidentally writing Trekkies in the newspaper article before the event. Who knew? Now you do...

We also have the FX6-1995-A, the Town of Vulcan's very own star ship. The original USS Enterprise from the Star Trek series inspired the concept of our ship. The FX6-1995-A is located at the main entrance to town and has greetings mounted on the base of the platform, which you can read in English, Vulcan and Klingon.

The Tourism and Trek Station inside is decorate with planets and even has a star ship deck replica inside. Soon, we will have a virtual reality game as well. Our hard earned tax money at work. (No satire intended, really.)

In July, the annual Show n' Shine and Vulcans to Vulcan motorcycle ride comes to Vulcan. Hundreds of vintage cars line Main Street in Vulcan, as well as motorcycles on the Vulcans to Vulcan motorcycle run and other motorcycles entered into the show.

Long before Star Trek, Vulcan was famous for it's 'Nine in a Line'. Nine grain elevators in the town boasted the largest grain storage capacity in the country until a fire in 1971. Pictures of Vulcan's "Nine in a Line" were published in newspapers and magazines across the country.

Before Star Trek, Vulcan was also popular for it's flight instructor school, the Vulcan Aerodome. The Aerodome opened in 1942 and was home to the No. 2 Flight Instructor School and later, the No. 19 Flight Instructor School.

Vulcan is a pretty community, thanks largely in part to Communities in Bloom of Vulcan whose efforts have made improvements in and around Vulcan.

Amazingly, there is a lot to do in Vulcan. We have a museum which captures the essence of our past, a weekly community newspaper, The Vulcan Advocate, restaurants, a Chamber of Commerce, the Vulcan Business Development Society, stores, grocery stores, banks, an outdoor pool, an indoor arena, a cultural center, the County Central High School, a brand new elementary school Vulcan Prairieview Elementary, an 18-hole golf course, a hospital, and much, much more.

Who I am

There are a few things that I know--sometimes it doesn't seem like much and other days I am overwhelmed with information flowing out of my head.

On most days when I am informative, I write articles. I love to freelance my writing services and write on a plethora of subjects. I work for various businesses writing SEO and keyword content on everything from Adirondack chairs to insurance, to health and mortgages. I really have covered all the bases with writing and I've written some really weird stuff.

One of the places I work for has an Ehow.com contract where we write stuff for Ehow. Those articles are fun, especially some of the topics we've been recently writing about--very juicy topics on sexual positions and toys. Of course, we wrote drivel about how to set your alarm on a specific type of CD player as well, but it certainly paved the way for the better topics.

One of my most favorite things to write about is insurance. I understand insurance, the ins and outs, how it works and why it's so important for everyone to have. I'm not an insurance agent or broker, however my boyfriend is. I grew up around insurance as well--my aunt was an agent since I was a kid, still is and is now a broker running her own office far away from home.

Other things I enjoy writing about (mostly because I understand them) are credit cards and mortgages. These are easy topics to write about and you can sling the information in a variety of ways, although working on my umpteenth mortgage article this week is starting to prove a little boring.

The places I freelance for are great and keep me quite busy with work, so much so that they are my only source of income for the time being. I used to work as a reporter for our weekly newspaper--cool job, crappy pay, which is really unfortunate, because I could have done that forever. I actually miss it...but, to all things there is a silver lining--we're opening a restaurant that I will manage and run. Boyfriend has experience in that as well so he will teach me the ropes (hopefully so I won't hang myself with them) and leave me with running the new restaurant. (Now if only we could think of a name...) Soon, this will all be done and we will be open and ready for business.

From this blog you can expect entries on insurance, just to keep my mind fresh on the subject, especially if something new and interesting comes about...articles or notations on mortgages and credit cards as well and various other tidbits of seemingly useless and frivolous information that you will find absolutely riveting. I should warn you--I have a whole raft of kids--so, there's probably going to be something about them around here as well...
